HOLIDAYS!!!!!

kat69a

THE REAL REASON I BECAME A DOCTOR. LOL

Well, one month has passed since my last post..Well, here's an update on things. I passed my EOS. Thank God. I passed it more comfortably than i was expecting as well. I guess they really did reduce the grade for OSPE. Been having holidays since then. 5 more days to go.

My dad left back for New Zealand last last week Friday. Well, I have to say despite the up and downs with my mum when he was here, I really do miss him now that he’s gone back. Thank God things sorted themselves out before he left, albeit it being on the last day. Missed all our little outings especially the visits to the ROJAK shop. Btw that’s the first time I’ve eaten rojak in my life and it tasted real GOOD. Sorry if I was a little whiny with some of you on MSN during that period of time. Was a little annoyed at a couple of things. Anyway, just thank God everything’s alrite now. Oh ya, saw the strangest thing when I was on the way back from KLIA. U know people are like speeding home at speeds of 110 km/h and above on the highway. So u don’t really expect to see things on the road when ur coming at that speed. I got a shock when I suddenly saw a piece of wood on the road. It was a small piece but enough to cause a catastrophe and damage if u had gone over it at that speed. Anyways, I managed to expertly manouvere my car around it. Then 5 mins later, I could not believe my eyes. I saw a tortoise crossing the road. A real tortoise. I mean like what the hell was it doing there and what the hell was it thinking. And it had already got across the oncoming traffic side of the road. So it had made it halfway across the highway without being killed. Amazing I thought to myself. A miracle. I wonder whether it completed its journey in the end.

Well, I’ve been really bumming around for the past 1 month. Watching a whole lot of TV. The Office and Scrubs mainly. And having a real unhealthy lifestyle. Did not want to go too far for holidays because my elective was supposed to be between February and March when UKM could accommodate me and Yinn Cher. Anyway, the whole thing came to a miserable end. Don’t really wanna talk about it. All the trouble to get approval and then getting dumped in the end. Haih, learnt my lesson. Never gonna do an Anatomy Posting in future. I ended up doing tennis as an elective. No idea what the hell I am going to write about. Thank God Chu Wan Loy said ok. Btw, IMU looks so freaking different now on the inside. Those of u who have not visited the uni at all since the hols will be in for a surprise. And please those peeople staying at VISTA must try the Cha Siew Pau outside IMU at night. Its heavenly to say the least.

The elections are over people. And I now live in an opposition state. Woohoo!!!!!! I think change will be good. I just hope the federal government don’t mistreat the state government. Well as for the opposition, u wanted an opportunity to prove yourself and now u have one. So don’t screw it up because I don’t think u will get another chance for a long time if u do. REFORMASI!!!!!!.I still think things are unfair in Malaysia. Bersih & Hindraf supporters were thrown into jail and ISA for having peaceful illegal gatherings. However, gatherings by the UMNO supporters which do not have permission in Selangor, the police don’t do anything and just let them protest peacefully it seems despite them not having a permit. The Hindraf and Bersih rallies were peaceful as well in my opinion so why the differential treatment? And when Lim kit siang criticized the PAS appointment as Perak MB he was bombarded by UMNO youths and the rest of the Barisan Nasional who claim to be members from NGOs and telling him he is disrespectful of the Sultan. Now when a similar situation occurs in Terengganu and thousands protest daily against the Sultan’s decision, nobody says anything? Democratic country it seems.

And Khir Toyo allegedly signing a deal with puncak Niaga a day before elections? Not even half a page of The Star newspaper covered the story, downplaying it mostly. Would the same treatment be dished out to the opposition if they were in that position? And how about the alleged burning of state documents and lockdown of State buildings for 1 week after the elections. Certainly no rationale in that. Opposition Ceramahs not given permits despite applying for it? The newspapers are all pro Barisan Nasional especially pre-elections. Even the telivision channels especially RTM supported the government which I thing is really not fair. The only newspaper which I think did some justice if any was The Sun. So it is really a slap in the face in the government for the Opposition to win 5 statees despite the handicap. The only BN politician who has earned my respect is Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon. The manner in which he conceded defeat and made way for Lim Guan Eng in Penang plus attending the swearing in ceremony as well was very gentlemanly of him I thought. Stark contrast to Khir Toyo and Tajol Rosli who went MIA for a few days after the elections. And Samy Vellu who told people he is going home to take a bath and never returned. Sore losers!!!

Well, Im truly dreading to go back to uni next week. I could holiday my whole life and never get bored. As u can see more than 1 month has passed by and I have so little to type about shows u how much I enjoy doing nothing. Im not feeling too good. Need to get back in shape badly. A lot of new lecturers I noticed according to the timetables. Hope they are of better quality then some of the existing ones. I don’t pay RM25,000 per semester for poor quality education. Endocrine System. Bluek!!!! Till next time folks…

Oh ya, Happy Birthday Miss Lim Su Ling. Hope u got my card by now. See u soon. Sorry I can’t seem to find a nice pic of me and u only together lar. Have to include Jian in it. LOL…

MEDICAL EXAMS = NIGHTMARES + FEARS + FAILURES

Hey guys, I’m finally reposting after a break of 3 months. Well, the whole cause of my disappearance was my End of Semester(EOS) 3 Examinations. Well, it was a major exam which will play a major role in which uni I get to twin with in future. Well, I had approximately 50 days to study for it. I think I studied for about 30 days. The balance 20 days I was either not in the mood or just fed up of the whole thing. 4 systems tested were Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal & Haematology. Needless to say the enormous pressure the exams brought on. Medical exams are crazy. Accountants, Engineers & Lawyers out there who complain that your exams are difficult, I seriously recommend u trying to sit for a medical exam. I went a little crazy and into depression during EOS 2. Tears, panic attacks and constant bouts of vomiting due to stress were just a few symptoms to mention during EOS 2 last year. I drove everyone mad. I was determined not to repeat it this time around. So I think I was slightly more calm and just keep telling myself its just an exam. Fail I will resit. Fail again then I will think what to do. (U can only resit once in IMU) Tried to block out all the negative vibes. I think I was quite successful . I could remember nothing of what I read as there was just too much and it was all jumbled up but I remained calm. My lovely sister who was on holiday here was a great help. I miss u so much, Sharan. CVS was alright, Respiratory was total crap. 2nd half of Haemato was also crappy and then my most hated one was GI. I did not even have enough time to study that. I just browsed through. Yes, one month is not ennough to study for a medical exam. 2 months also would be tight. To make things worse, 1 week before the exams, I got really sick. I had major flu and a serious bout of dry cough. I had to sleep upright. I blame it all on the Mandarin oranges which I was eating by the cartons. It’s happened before but I could not resist the taste. I was sick for a week. That seriously screwed up studying. 2 days before the exam, I started getting panic attacks. Not as bad as last time. No tears and vomit this time.

Finally the exam came on the 11th of Feb. It was hell. MCQ, MEQ and EMQ were all tough for me. The easy part of EMQ I did not really study so I was really screwed at the end of Day 1. I hoped Day 2 would be better. It was worse. OSPE was fucked up. So demoralising. I barely knew half the things and all the physiology stuff was mad.

Day 3 & 4 were supposed to be the clinical exams. I hoped this would be better as I think I practised about 10 times in CSU before OSCE. Day 3 went badly. I panicked before the exam and I started of at a History Taking(HT) station. The Simulated patient (SP) was still warming up and he was not too clear about his facts. I left the room without having a clue of what he had and what was the presenting complaint. To make things worse they give u only 5 minutes at each station. Its alright for Physical Examination (PE) but not for HT). Anyways, my next station after answering the questions of the 1st HT was a rest station. I tried to get composed and forget about what just happened.

I proceeded to the 1st PE station. I saw Dr Lim Wei Min there. I washed my hands and proceeded. She was quite nice during my MOCK OSCE so that gave me a little confidence. It was a patient with a right sided pneumothorax. The SP was Faisal. Instead of asking him his name, I said hello Faisal. Small error. Nvm. First thing was check for tracheal deviation. She said I was not doing it very well and asked me to do it again. I complied and she said ok. Then she asked what happens. Then it was percussion. I think I did this alright. 3rd was auscultation of breath Sounds. This  was ok as well. Then she asked the findings in this patient. I reported it. Then she asked what else can I do for mediastinal shift. Luckily I knew it.She then said I did ratherwell, I was confident. Only thing was I must percuss further away from the sternum and not so low. She was quite pleasant and she built up my confidence. Thank u Dr Lim. U are always very encouraging.

Next station was palpation of the liver, liver span and shifting dullness. The lecturer was Dr  Jagmonhi Kaur. This station went fairly well. I only forgot to warm my hands and my liver span was 6.5cm which was super small. But I think she was looking more at the technique. I think I answered the question she gave wrongly. Anyways, she was alright, not much conversation though. Next station was a rest station. Then I had my 2nd HT. Behavioral Science(BS) Station. SP was supposed to be a worried patient. Miss Reiko Yeap was in there. The SP was the biggest pain in the ass I have seen in the whole of IMU. She never responded to any open ended questions practically. She only responded to closed questions. And she was slow in giving information. And she was acting up throughout the whole session. I asked her do u have any illnesses. She said no. Do u have any diabetes, asthma, hypertension. She took 10 seconds before saying, “uhhhh..what is hypertension?” Then I asked her she been admitted before. She said yes. Why?. She was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML). This despite her saying she had no illnesses. She barely gave me any associated symptoms. She did not even know the proper location of her supposed “swelling”. I could not answer the question on the HT at the next station and I think I screwed up the BS part of the station as well. I will remember that SP for life. And I’m always so nice to her when I see her. Not anymore!!! Ungrateful bitch.

I thought things could not get worse. Well ,next station was CVS examination. Palpation and auscultation in a patient with mitral stenosis. Prof Rohini was there. She put on a very moody and solemn look. Why do lecturers do that?. It justs makes the students feel more intimidated. I proceeded. I could not find the apex beat. She stopped me and after a brief argument whether I’m doing it right or wrong, I succumbed and used my fingers. I actually located it this time so it was my mistake I guess. Anyways, I did whatever else was required and then left. That was the end  of Day 3.

Day 4 was the only day of the exam in which I felt good. Things went well finally. My first SP, at the HT station, I dunno her name was really cooperative. She was clear and organized and she responded to my questions very well. She was also pleasant. I could answered at least 70 % of the questions at the next station. Then came the first PE station. Lmyph node examination of the neck and axilla. I think I did alright. She just said I must expose the patient more before inspection. I did not know the lecturer’s name. First time I have seen her. Other than that, it went smooth. The next PE station was rectal examination. Lecturer was Dr Rajesh Sharma. I did alright also I think, with one or 2 minor errors here and there. Overall it was ok. The next HT station was also good. The SP told me everything clearly when I asked. I was also much calmer today so my flow of questions were much better. I thanked the SP and moved on. Last station. PE with Dr Lim inside. Peripheral Arterial Diseases. I was afraid I would screw it up. I practised on my dad on my morning and I could not feel the pulses. And the SP was a little old. But thankfully I kept my cool and the SP had magnificent pulses. I only forgot to comment on the volume and I never covered the patient properly. I also was not to sure where the ASIS was. We had to tak the femoral pulse as well. Thankfully I managed to find it. I finished just on time and Dr Lim said I did quite well.  Phew!!..That was the end of the examination. Results come out in 1 week so my fingers are crossed. I don’t want to resit.1 more month of studying and I’ll die I think. I think I can pass OSCE but the oter papers are 50-50.

I’m gonna play tennis, watch TV and just relax now. I found a new show that I like. It’s called “The Office” its really stupid but I like it. I have to lose weight also. I think I put everything back in the last 1 month due to the studying and stress. And there are a couple of “issues” and personal problems I have to resolve. I hope things get better in that aspect if not I will feel really upset and uncomfortable. I pray to God to help me. Need to mend my relationship with a couple of people in uni as well which have been strained over the last 6 months. I know what the problem is, but the solution is not simple. Need to meet up with a couple of people also.

Well, that’s it for now peeps. Till my next post. Pray that I pass. Happy Valentines Day people. (Attached along with this post are pictures of my Valentine, the mesmerizing Katrina Kaif. Yes people, I have officially dumped Rani Mukherjee and moved on to greener pastures)

Week I dunno what but a Good Week!!

Ok guys, I know I did not post anything last week.(Gopi hurled abuses at me for it. Not as though u post that frequently also rite macha?.Yours is more like an annual post!!..go visit gopi’s blog at www.lepakbrother.blogspot.com) Don’t worry, nothing much happened in that week.

To be honest, my diet took a downturn since week 1. Deepavali got in the way. And then there were all this other dinners as well. The trip to UKM, my grandpa’s prayer ceremony all contributed to that. One thing bad about me is that once I ruin one meal of a particular day, I tend to go beserk and ruin the rest of the meals of the day as well. In the end, I binge eat (and its not bulimia since I don’t vomit it out). Mcdonalds, Chicken rice Shop, Murni, Swensens & KFC are just a couple of the names which contributed to my downfall. Btw, if any of u go to Swensens, try the Apple Crumble. Trust me, it’s the most delicious dessert ever. It’s like an orgasm in your mouth to say the least. Basically, I went out of control for 3 weeks or so. I actually gained 1 kilo in that time due to my eating habits.

Well, thank God that phase has passed and I got serious again in the last 1 week. This week has been a success in the dieting department except for Thursday but even Thursday I only ruined one meal but still exercised after that to burn it all off. So yea, a real good week. Besides shedding off that extra 1 kilo I gained, I shed off an extra 2 kilos. 3 kilos all in all. That’s brings up the grand total since the 1st of September to 13 kilos. I can’t believe this diet is actually so effective. Maybe I should copyright it. LOL. Oh ya, did I tell u, I finally know what the 3 vegetables which I hate in Subway are. (Whenever I ask for all the veges, it always leaves a weird taste in my mouth.) That’s the end of it. Now I know which veges I like. The 3 veges were green chilli, olives and pickles. Yuck!!

Well, that’s it for the dieting stuff. England are out of Euro 2008. Serves them rite. Mclaren is the crappiest manager ever.  Well, at least Peter Crouch & Steven Gerrard will have the summer off to replenish their energy after a long season. Kimi Raikkonen is confirmed as world champion. Bravo!!. Liverpool finally looking like the team I support again with a convincing 2-0 win aginst Fulham. Lets hope thay beat Newcastle tonight. I want Reina, Hyypia, Carragher, Arbeloa/Finnan, Aurelio/Riise, Kewell, Gerrard, Mascherano, Babel (Benayoun is out injured), Torres, Voronin/Crouch to start. Federer, Sampras, Nadal & Gasquet came to town but due to some bad luck, misinformation, procrastination, and failing to read the newspaper earlier, I did not get to buy tickets to see them. I really love Tennis. It’s such a great game. I alwas feel so happy when I’m playing it. Played it twice already this week .Once for Coaching & once during Tennis Club practice in IMU. Going again on Sunday. I just love the courts at Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Club. They’re so nice. I wish the ones near my house are resurfaced. It’s really in bad shape. And its more expensive than the Bukit Jalil one. I’m gonna write a letter to the MP for my area when I get some time. (YB Dato Wong Sai Hou or something like that) and I’m gonna ask him why is there continuous money being spent to upgrade the basketball courts but none spent on the tennis court. They even built a roof for the basketball court God Damn it. The tennis court surface looks like tar and its so rough. You can only see patches of green. The ball bounces weird as some places. I better send the letter in before the elections or else no action will be taken in the next 5 years.

Diwali nite yesterday was great. I loved Bhangra & Kampung Dance. But my favourite has to be Modern hindi. The choreography was great, everyone looked so hot and pretty and they were really energetic & into it. Bravo Avinder, Abiramy, Harnesh, Niharika, Maya, Pei Shern & to the rest of the dancers whose names I don’t really know. (All of u were excellent) The drama was a little lame at times but the actors put on a great show and overall the audience was satisfied. Congrats to the Diwali Nite Committee as well. Everything went on smoothly and followed schedule. Great work guys. I saw so many girls looking great and so demure in their traditional costumes and Punjabi Suits.  A great event all in all. I hope I get to take a more active part in next year’s event.

Well, that’s all for now. Hopefully, you guys get to read my post next week. Adios!!

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RECORD LIVERPOOL 8-0 BESIKTAS

Finally, a performance from Liverpool that I'm truly proud of. Therefore, I've decided to dedicate a midweek post to them. The defence was excellent with Carragher & Hyypia. Arbeloa & Aurelio were lively. Risse was impressive. Benayoun scored a hattrick and set up 2 more. Voronin set up at least 3. Crouch scored 2 and held up the ball well. Mascherano won every ball there was to win. Gerrard lead by example and scored 1 as well. Babel & Kewell made an impact as soon as the came on with Babel scoring 2. (could have had a hattrick if not for the bar) . Reina hardly had anything to do. 31 shots, 16 on target, 8 goals, 60% of possesion, a clean sheet. What more can I ask for? A truly great night. Hope Benitez sticks with these bunch of players and hope this kind of excellent positive play and passing will continue. My fingers are crossed. Bravo Bravo!!! I'm so happy!!! I just hope its not too late to qualify. Come on Reds, take this form into the Premiership as well. Pics from a great night.
